To me, it really doesn't matter -- I love the negative reactions as much as I do the positive ones. The Receipt Site is the straight-man's setup to everyone's punchline.....there not just one way to resolve the joke, so every range of response is possible. I don't think I'm on the same scale as any of these guys, but Andy Kaufman, Tom Green, that new Jackass guy, all take humor in a "REACT, DAMMIT" vein: Andy Kaufman reads a novel to the audience, making them stay through the entire book -- the comedy isn't in the reading of the book, but in the audience's reaction. The people who get pissed are part of the show, and that probably pisses them off even more :)
reminds me of the recent play in some post-wall emerging european sudo-cracy where the unknowing audience is subjected to having to watch some guy rowing across a dry stage in a small skiff. his arduous task was surpassed only by his audience's attempt at patience. all boo'd and many left. butt after he made it halfway a few began to offer encouragement and near the end there was a rush onstage to help him traverse the last few exhausting feet. in other words, some will never get it, some will after awhile, and periodically there fortunately will be someone to propose the original "absurdity."
