Whaddayaknow: years of Dungeons and Dragons might be valuable to incoming college freshmen. Rather than memorization of dates or reading thousands of pages to write a bland research paper, students role-play key figures in history, under a game-like structure, as an immersive way to learn about human history. The program, called Reacting to the Past, provides rulebooks and game organization, designed by history professionals, to avoid the dull encyclopedic method of teaching. Sadly, there does not appear to be any Magic Missile spells to cast nor Bugbears to defeat.
