Lakes Radio, Z103.3 has been around for a while, but I hadn't listened to it in some time. I don't even really remember what it's programming was like -- something tells me it was classic rock, which is why I didn't listen to it. There's already enough places to hear classic rock -- plus it's the same classic rock they've been playing for fifteen years.I happened to turn it on last night, driving home from a server installation, and was pleasantly surprised. It sounded more like college radio than a regular radio station.Actually, it sounded more like a college radio station from when I was first college, 10 years ago.The biggest thing that impresses me is the amuont of music I've never heard before -- I've been Googling lyrics all morning, coming up with a bunch of songs from pretty common artists (Sheryl Crow, Warren Zevon). It's downright refreshing to find unique music on the radio. I really hope Z103 keeps it up, sending good tunes from Fergus Falls all the way up here to Fargo.

Actually, a soundbite from a
Fargo radio talkback session
was played on national radio
here in Australia. One of
the chief negotiators from
the current sessions to
create a Free Trade
Agreement between the US and
Australia said that sugar
was not going to be on the
agenda, but remain an
agricultural product
protected from imports. This
little aside on a regional
studio has thrown the whole
agreement into doubt.

My dad's on the other end of
that discussion...he's an
agriculturalist for Crystal
Sugar, one of the large
processing plants in the
area. Many people around
don't want foreign sugar in
the States. It's impressive
how this sort of thing makes
it all around the world. You
guys are in the middle of the
growing season, and our
fields are under three feet
of snow...

Don't want to rub it in, but
we've just come back from a
week up the Coast - morning
swim to catch some waves or
just drift on the clear
water, afternoon snooze, and
go look for some koalas in
the bush in the later
afternoon humidity and
shadows. So the kids are
back for the new school year
next week, and the car has a
thick layer of sand on the
floor.

I just discovered this radio station this year (circa August) and I love it! Keep up the good Z103.3! I moved to Fargo via Minneapolis and Chicago, and I have to say, this station beats any other that I've heard. Good job.
