Lakes Radio, Z103.3 has been around for a while, but I hadn't listened to it in some time. I don't even really remember what it's programming was like -- something tells me it was classic rock, which is why I didn't listen to it. There's already enough places to hear classic rock -- plus it's the same classic rock they've been playing for fifteen years.I happened to turn it on last night, driving home from a server installation, and was pleasantly surprised. It sounded more like college radio than a regular radio station.Actually, it sounded more like a college radio station from when I was first college, 10 years ago.The biggest thing that impresses me is the amuont of music I've never heard before -- I've been Googling lyrics all morning, coming up with a bunch of songs from pretty common artists (Sheryl Crow, Warren Zevon). It's downright refreshing to find unique music on the radio. I really hope Z103 keeps it up, sending good tunes from Fergus Falls all the way up here to Fargo.
click for current conditionsBoy, I thought it was cold this time last January, but it doesn't hold a candle to today. It was much, much colder this morning -- it's almost 8am, the sun is up, so -27F is WARMER than a couple hours ago. Think on that for a while.
Grand Royal Records, a label originated by the Beastie Boys and the home to Lucious Jackson and Sean Lennon, was sold at auction to satisfy it's bankruptcy. How much did the label sell for?$65,000.65 thousand dollars -- This is an amazingly low number. I once, for a lark, talked to a business owner who was interested in selling his pawn shop. His asking price was $250,000. The recording assets of an entire record label went for just $65,000. This just boggles the mind: If I had $65,000, I'd have bought it. SOMETHING could come of it -- how could it not? Granted, there may be contract obligations of the expensive sort, but -- $65,000? The value must be well beyond that; finance $500,000, and things would be looking good. From here on out, I'm looking for auctioned business assets. There's gotta be other deals out there, entire companies for mere pennies, that I could take for my own and make something better of.
