Happy birthday, me! This mornings newspaper brought everyone's attention to the fact that I've petted, held, and -- dare I say it -- even loved a skunk at one time. It wasn't my skunk; it belonged to a friend of my mother's. It was, of course, destinked, but it had not been completely domesticated and from what I hear it eventually went crazy living in a human world. The skunk's short life as a housepet is documented in this old, old photo that I have framed in my livingroom. As for my Birthday: I slept in, I showered, and I attended my 8-hour long party. I ate, I played pool, I chit-chatted with relatives, I played with Destiny, I ate again, and then we had cake and ice cream. Then we came home. A very pleasant golden birthday, if I do say so myself.

Happy Birthday Derek!!! --Holly, 6/29/2003 22:22:55
My father went to college
(UCONN) with a naturalist by
the name of Ronald Rood who
wrote several books about
strange woodland pets he and
his kids introduced into their
household. A skunk may've
been one of em; the title that
is stuck most prominently in
my mem'ry is "How Do You Pet A
Porcupine?" --busmun, 6/30/2003 10:23:44
Happy Belated Birthday
Derek. It sounds like you
had a good one. I loved the
skunk story. I grew up in
one of those families that
never turned down a stray,
no matter what it was. My
childhood pets included
chickens, blue jays, robins,
american Kestrel(watch the
claws!), bats, a large pink
pig, and an adorable
squirrel monkey. Oops, I'm
rambling. Sorry. -Jenay --Jenay, 7/2/2003 10:31:19
