Destiny is an odd duck, partly because of my preparation. All day yesterday, she was excited: She was going to the dentist after school! Chess club, yeah, haircut, sure -- but DENTIST! was paramount in her mind. She was so excited, she could hardly contain herself. She was getting a new tooth brush, she was going to get a toy, and her name was going in the "No-Cavity Club" drawing for a big stuffed animal. A visit to the dentist was not to be missed. Her adult teeth are coming in behind her baby teeth. It's not a condition to worry about, but I had told Destiny that if the baby teeth don't come out on their own, the dentist will have to pull them out. I explained the novocaine shot, and how it'll be done quick. I've had my wisdom teeth pulled, so it's no big deal, I explained. After the dentist checked her over, he said the baby teeth will come out on their own soon enough, and not to worry about them. After he left, Destiny asked, with a disappointed little frown: "He's not going to pull the teeth?"

Odd duck perhaps, but cute...
that's such a great story, a
first grader who's
disappointed cos she's NOT
gonna have a tooth pulled!
My 6 year old just wrangled
her second top front tooth out
of her head right in
kindergarten (the first one
came out at home) and became a
celebrity for the day because
of it. I had forgotten how a
little blood came make you
famous at that age. --busmun, 4/11/2003 10:39:05
Derek!
Hahaha I thought I was the
only one with STRANGE kids,
My oldest is 17 and youngest
daughter 15, they BOTH still
bug me about going to the
dentist......don't need that
reminder card sent every 6
mths. They are more than
happy to do it for me.

when my daughter was little
she had a high lead level so
we had to change her diet (way
up the iron amounts) and have
our house deleaded. she had to
have her blood drawn every
week for close to three months.
at first it was harrowing. she
was 2... and she cried. but
eventually she got used to it.
2 years late, long after they
declared her safe and not
needing blood drawn any
longer, i had to have some
bloodwork done for my
pregnancy with my son.she was
4 at the time.
i took her with me and went to
sit in the seat. she climbed
up and in and rolled up her
sleeve. the nurse just stood
there with this look of
surprise, and told her that
mommy was the "victim" this time.
my daughter cried and cried
and cried... "I want you to
take MY blood!"
it was weird. slightly
disturbing. and also very funny. --christine, 4/16/2003 05:15:43
