Fans of Star Trek immediately recognize the name Miles O'Brien, Chief of Operations on Deep Space Nine and an engineer on the Enterprise.Imagine my surprise when I heard Miles O'Brien discussing the space shuttle disaster on the radio news today. It seems that there's a Miles O'Brien that is CNN's Space Correspondent, interviewer of astronauts and expert on the stars. Dude.

miles o'brien used to be on
our local NBC affiliate here
in boston and i used to laugh
and laugh at his name.
specifically for the reason
you blog about. i kept
thinking he was going to say
"This is Miles O'Brien
Reporting from Sommerville for
Seven News, now, over to you
Wesley Crusher at the Sports
Desk... Wesley?"
Then, Picard would say "Make
it so, Wesley."
And Wesley would give the
Patriots, Bruins and Celtics
scores for that afternoon and
talk about how the Red Sox
were trying to get Roger
Clemens to come back to the
team and leave the Dark Side
of the Yankees.
Oops. That's mixing space
fiction stories and violating
the prime directive.
Thanks for your post today.
you've assisted me in making
myself laugh. --christine, 2/6/2003 09:36:22
